SAILGREEN Sets Sail in Vienna: European Partners Launch New Green Sailing Initiative
Vienna, 5. December 2025
The SAILGREEN project officially launched with its first transnational kick-off meeting in Vienna, bringing together four partners from across Europe to strengthen sustainability in sailing and water sports.
Coordinated by BildungsLAB (Austria), the partnership includes Cradle (Greece), Viking Sailing Club (Malta), and Zemun Sailing Club (Serbia). SAILGREEN is a 12-month Erasmus+ Sport Small-Scale Partnership running from
1 . November 2025 to 31. October 2026, with a clear mission: move green sport practices from “good intentions” into everyday training routines.
The project will develop practical Green Skills for young sailors and trainers, encouraging measurable behaviour change – protecting marine resources, reducing waste, building new habits, and embedding climate and ocean protection into club culture.
SAILGREEN will deliver a set of hands-on resources, including a trainer guide, multilingual toolkit, knowledge report and competence matrix, communication materials, and an e-learning platform designed for easy use in clubs, trainings, and youth activities.
With sailing as a direct gateway to nature, SAILGREEN aims to turn awareness into action on the water and beyond.
SAILGREEN Launches First Online Workshop on 15. December 2025
Vienna, 15. December 2025
Following the SAILGREEN kick-off meeting in Vienna, the partnership successfully delivered its first public online workshop, bringing together young sailors, trainers, youth educators, and sport professionals to explore how sailing and environmental education can go hand in hand.
Held on Monday, 15 December (18:00 – 19:30 CET), the English-language session focused on practical ways to reduce waste and environmental impact in sailing and outdoor training, while demonstrating how sustainability can be turned into engaging, hands-on activities for youth and teams. Beyond the content, the workshop offered a valuable space for exchange and networking, with participants sharing routines and ideas that can be applied directly in clubs and training settings.
The session was facilitated by Elise Jalinat-Werner, who works at the intersection of strategy, innovation, and leadership, helping teams gain clarity, align priorities, and turn ideas into action. With 2,500+ hours of workshops and webinars delivered for 4,000+ participants across Asia, Europe, and the U.S., Elise brings deep experience in designing learning formats that drive real participation and practical outcomes - drawing on methods such as Growth Mindset, Design Thinking, and agile capability development.
This first workshop marked an important early step for SAILGREEN’s mission: train greener, sail smarter, and protect the sea through concrete, everyday sport practices.
SAILGREEN
Launches Website
Vienna, 20. January 2026
The SailGreen partnership has officially launched the project’s new website - marking the first public milestone in our journey to build a greener sport culture in sailing and water sports. The platform introduces SailGreen’s mission, target groups, partners, and key goals, and will serve as the central hub for news and updates throughout the project period.
To ensure accessibility across the partnership and beyond, the website is available in four languages: English, Greek, Serbian, and German. This multilingual approach reflects SailGreen’s commitment to making sustainability knowledge easy to reach and usable across different local sailing contexts.
As the project moves forward,
the website will regularly share:
Project news and upcoming events
Practice-oriented learning resources
for clubs and youth activitiesPractical guidelines for environmentally responsible sailing and sport routines
Tools and methods for trainers and youth workers
Opportunities to join workshops, pilot activities,
and community exchanges
With this launch, SailGreen takes its first visible step toward supporting young sailors, trainers, youth workers, clubs, and sport organisations in turning sustainability from an idea into everyday sailing practice on the water, in trainings, and in local communities.
What is SailGreen
SailGreen is a European cooperation project focused on sustainability in sailing and water sports.
The project supports young people, trainers, youth workers and sport organisations. It helps them understand how sailing, sport practice and environmental responsibility are connected.
SailGreen combines learning with real sport activities. The focus is on practical application rather than theory. The aim is to make sustainability part of everyday sailing practice.
What We Offer
Project Aim
The main aim of SailGreen is
to promote green sport practices in sailing.
The project supports participants to: understand the environmental impact of sailing activities - reduce negative effects on water and marine environments - protect coastal and inland water ecosystems through responsible sport behaviour.
SailGreen translates sustainability principles into concrete actions that can be applied directly in sport contexts.
“Real change on the water starts with practical actions –
SailGreen makes green sailing simple, concrete, and doable.”
— Sailor
Why the Project Matters
Sailing depends on clean water and healthy ecosystems. Pollution, waste and unsustainable habits threaten these conditions.
Many sailing clubs and sport actors want to act more sustainably but often lack clear guidance and practical tools.
SailGreen addresses this gap. The project shows how small changes in sport routines and decision-making can lead to meaningful environmental impact.
What SailGreen Delivers
SailGreen develops practice-oriented learning resources tailored to sailing and green sport.
Key project results include: - structured e-learning modules on sustainable sailing - practical guidelines for environmentally responsible sport activities - methods and tools for trainers and youth workers - awareness materials for young sailors and volunteers
All outputs are designed to be easy to use in clubs, trainings and youth activities.
“From e-learning modules to on-the-water guidelines – SailGreen delivers simple, practice-oriented resources for green sailing in everyday trainings.”
— Popi Christopoulou, CRADLE, Greece

The project is inclusive and accessible across different experience levels.
“From local clubs to European goals: SailGreen empowers young people to lead responsible sailing and create lasting community impact.”
— Sailor
